It is with great pleasure that the IPMEN 2023 conference committee announces that Ocean Networks Canada has agreed to host the IPMEN 2023 conference at the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island BC, Canada. The conference dates are Tuesday July 18th to Thursday July 20th. We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the University of Victoria stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

The theme for the IPMEN 2023 conference is Linking Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Ocean Literacy. The four IPMEN 2023 conference strands are:

Strand 1: Highlighting Pacific-wide examples of the links between TEK and Ocean Literacy with a focus on traditional ocean voyaging.

Strand 2: Highlighting Pacific-wide examples of the links between TEK and Ocean Literacy with a focus on tsunamis.

Strand 3: Refining and supporting work already done on establishing protocols for scientists and educators working with traditional communities.

Strand 4: Exemplary programs that link TEK to Ocean Literacy.

Please follow the link to the conference above in the IPMEN website. Two of the Saltwater Directors Harry and Natalie are involved in the management committee. We are very excited to be able to join with educators around the Pacific to develop and strengthen ties and further these important themes together.
